Kingston University Scaffolding Project

Description: Kingston University London is set in a beautiful riverside location. The university was undergoing a specialist renovation project that involved an extension to the existing building, a complete fit-out, refurbishment and a glass roof installation.

Why Was Our Scaffolding Services Required For This Project?

Our expert scaffolding services were required for this project to provide our client with safe full perimeter access to Kingston University. We were also required to provide freestanding heavy-duty hoists. Our reliable team installed a Ubix temporary roof system. It was expertly installed to two large roof areas, with an impressive total covering of 2775 m2 (45m x 35m = 1575 m2) (75m x 16m = 1200m2). We used various bridging sections, which were supported from structural columns at a low level, allowing all entrances to safely be kept clear. There was glass below some of the working areas, so we also installed hanging scaffolding to ensure optimum safety.

The Challenges We Faced

We required a permit to work at Kingston University as it was a university building. Noise areas were also implemented to accommodate students’ study times. We had to work out of hours whilst installing this temporary roof system on many occasions. The area is also residential which caused restrictions on our working hours. The final challenge we faced was finding tying methods that worked for this specific project.

Due to the nature of this scaffolding project, we were required to make various ongoing adaptations to our work to ensure that the services we provided were fit for purpose. Our highly-skilled operatives were reactive to site demands from other trades to ensure safe working at all times. There were also challenges with regard to on-site logistics, due to it being a residential area and the close proximity to the nursery, local car park and hospital. We tackled this by ensuring that deliveries were planned and booked in advance so that access could be granted.

The Result

We overcame all of the challenges faced through adhering to the agreed schedule and working extremely closely with the client. Continual changes within the site and the structural demands of the project were overcome, with the design constantly evolving. We were extremely proud to have delivered excellent results to our client despite all of the challenges that we faced throughout.
