Kingston University Scaffolding Project | MR Scaffolding

Kingston University

Project: Kingston University

Description: Kingston University is set in a beautiful riverside location, they were undergoing a renovation project that involved an extension to the existing building, a complete fit-out and refurbishment and a glass roof installation.

Why Was Scaffolding Needed For This Project?

Our services were required to provide our client with safe full perimeter access to the building. We were also required to provide freestanding heavy duty hoists. Our team also installed a Ubix temporary roof system which was expertly installed to two large roof areas, with an impressive total covering of 2775 m2 (45m x 35m = 1575 m2) (75m x 16m = 1200m2). We used various bridging sections which were supported from structural columns at a low level which allowed all entrances to be kept clear. Due to the fact that there was glass below some of the working areas, we also installed hanging scaffolding.

The Challenges We Faced

The fact that the building is a university building means that we required a permit to work there, and noise areas were also implemented. This meant that we were required to work out of hours to accommodate student’s study times. The area is also residential which caused restrictions. The final challenge we faced was finding tying methods that worked for this specific project.

The Challenges We Faced

Due to the nature of the project, we were required to make various ongoing adaptations to our work to ensure that the services we provided were fit for purpose. To do this, our operatives needed to be reactive to site demands from other trades to ensure safe working at all times. There were also challenges with regard to on-site logistics, due to it being a residential area and the close proximity to the nursery, local car park and hospital. We tackled this by ensuring that deliveries were planned and booked in advance so that access could be granted.

The Result

We overcame all of the challenges faced through adhering to the agreed schedule and working extremely closely with the client. Design evolvement ensured that continual changes within the site and the structural demands of the project were overcome. We were extremely proud to have delivered excellent results to our client despite all of the challenges that we faced throughout.
